![]() ![]() This is a desperation tactic and only serves to booger up the fish. They see the line and leader land, and the fly is coming at them. The angle it’s moving at doesn’t matter.” I had trouble believing this based on my experiences in Florida, but of course he was exactly right.Īs the fish gets past you you’re casting from behind it. When I fished in Louisiana with Danny Ayo he told me, “As long as you get the fly within six inches of the fish’s head he’ll hit it. However, where the fish aren’t pressured that doesn’t seem to matter. If your cast is too long it’s best to wait for the fish to pass and then try again. Redfish are not used to being attacked by their prey, and unless you’ve watched it happen you’d be astonished at just how spooked a group of reds can be by a two inch long fly. In most areas it’s a mistake to cast past the fish and bring the fly to it. A cruising redfish can move fairly quickly, so at a 90 degree angle your fly might be in front of the fish only a second or two. This is by far your best chance.Īs you get closer to being at a right angle to the path of the fish the sweetness of the angle declines, since the fly of necessity is in the strike zone for a shorter amount of time. You can adjust the speed of your retrieve to keep the fly a foot in front of him, or, if it’s a school, in front of a lot of them. The place from which you can keep the fly in the strike zone for the longest amount of time is directly in the path of the fish, with him coming right at you. The longer you can keep the fly in the strike zone, the more likely you are to get a bite. Or you might be somewhere in between one of these three locations. You might be off to the side of the path of the fish, with your cast at a right angle to his line of movement. You could be behind the fish, with him swimming directly away from you. You could be positioned in front of the fish, with him swimming directly at you. Hopefully it’s obvious that the longer the fly is in that strike zone, the more likely the fish is to take it. Our assumption here is that in order to get a bite, the fly must be in the strike zone. Over the years I’ve seen a few fish do about faces to take a fly. Understand that the strike zone changes in size constantly though, going from non-existent to huge and back again, and occasionally even goes behind the fish. Since their mouths point down, redfish prefer to feed down, but they show little hesitation in coming up for a fly unless they are heavily fished or have been disturbed by boat traffic. This area is roughly shaped like a half a football, extending with the wide part at the mouth of the fish to the apex out in front of it. The strike zone is an area around the fish where, if the fly is properly presented, you have a reasonable chance that the fish will take it. We’re going to revisit this concept and then relate it to presenting the fly to redfish- cruising fish, laid-up fish, and tailers. In this video Billy explains the concept of strike zones as it relates to tarpon fishing. When I was younger and just getting into saltwater fly fishing, I was fortunate to get a copy of the finest instructional fishing video ever made, the late Billy Pate’s Fly Fishing for Tarpon (which I recommend highly). But it’s a great segue into this section’s premise- after locating the fish, how you present the fly to them is the single most important variable in getting one to bite, much more important than what’s at the end of your leader. The moral to this story? Your casting must be second nature in order to take advantage of opportunities, especially once in a lifetime opportunities like this one was. “Lead them, put it where they’re going and let them swim into it.” Rob tried again with the same result. When he got the fly in the water, not very far away, there was so much slack in the line that the cast was useless. “Cast out in front of them, and just make it look alive,” I told him. It was practically certain that the deed would now be done. He had caught exactly one redfish on fly in his life, and badly wanted another. It was a redfish fisher’s dream, a school of at least 500 fish, swimming fast, up on top, crashing bait all around us, one of the finest sights in all of angling, and one that one doesn’t see very often in the Mosquito Lagoon. This is an excerpt from the book, Redfish on the Fly, by Capt. ![]()

You can use these general ratios for planning the space requirements of different sized conference rooms. One to two people conference room - 25-50 sq.To meet the needs of people who will be using your conference room, here are some general guidelines for space requirements: People using the conference room must be able to easily get into the room and leave without having to shuffle sideways or press themselves against walls for someone to pass. You must also consider door swing clearances. For instance, if you have a single standard four-drawer cabinet, it can take up no less than 10-15 square feet of space when opened. If there is going to be a storage unit in the conference room, you must also take into account the space needed to enable people to open drawers and cupboards. This will allow employees five feet of space on either side of the table. For instance, if your conference room is 25-by-25 feet, the maximum table size you can have is 15 feet in length and below. Usually, you must ensure that there is about a ten-foot difference between the table length and the length of the conference room. You need to calculate the correct ratio of the table size to available space. This is one of the first steps in planning a new conference room design. Calculate the Ratio of Table Size to Space Therefore, as you are planning for conference room space, you need to avoid both of these costly scenarios. On the other hand, if you allocate a lot of space, the conference room will be half-empty most of the time. If the space is too small, the room will feel uncomfortably overpopulated, and no one ends up wanting to use it. It is also important to maximize room utilization, so you don’t end up wasting space. The goal is to ensure that people can gather safely and be able to have effective in-meeting collaboration. ![]() Conference room space planning can be a little tricky. ![]() ![]() ![]() In 1942, the islands Vlieland and Terschelling went back to the province of Friesland. In exchange, South Holland received the greater part of the municipality of Leimuiden in 1864. Urbanisation and economic growth (1840 to today) Broek in WaterlandĪfter the Haarlemmermeer was drained in 1855 and turned into arable land, it was made part of North Holland. The impetus came largely from Amsterdam, which still resented the 1838 relocation of the court of appeal to The Hague in South Holland. The need for this was not felt in South Holland or in West Friesland (which feared the dominance of Amsterdam). When the constitutional amendments were introduced in 1840, it was decided to split Holland once again, this time into two provinces called "North Holland" and "South Holland". The borders with Utrecht and Gelderland were definitively set in 1820. During this reorganisation the islands of Vlieland and Terschelling were returned to Holland and parts of "Hollands Brabant" (including "Land of Altena") went to North Brabant. Even though the province had been reunited, the two areas were still being treated differently in some ways and the idea of dividing Holland remained alive. When the province of Holland was re-established in 1814, it was given two governors, one for the former department of Amstelland (area that is now North Holland) and one for the former department of Maasland (now South Holland). However, the division was not totally reversed. One of the ministers on the constitutional committee (van Maanen) suggested that the old name "Holland and West Friesland" be reintroduced to respect the feelings of the people of that region. Zuiderzee and Monden van de Maas were reunited as the province of "Holland". When the 1814 Constitution was introduced, the country was reorganised as provinces and regions ( landschappen). Amstelland and Utrecht were amalgamated as the department of "Zuiderzee" ( Zuyderzée in French) and Maasland was renamed "Monden van de Maas" ( Bouches-de-la-Meuse in French).Īfter the defeat of the French in 1813, this organisation remained unchanged for a year or so. In 1810, all the Dutch provinces were integrated into the French Empire. This time the two departments were called "Amstelland" (corresponding to the modern province of North Holland) and "Maasland" (corresponding to the modern province of South Holland). This reorganisation had been short-lived, but it gave birth to the concept of breaking up Holland and making it a less powerful province. In 1801 the old borders were restored when the department of Holland was created. The first three of these lay within the borders of the old Holland the latter two were made up of parts of different provinces. Holland was split up into five departments named " Texel", " Amstel", " Delf", " Schelde en Maas", and " Rijn". The republic was reorganised into eight departments ( département) with roughly equal populations. In the Constitution enacted on 23 April 1798, the old borders were radically changed. ![]() In 1795, the old order was swept away and the Batavian Republic was established. These include reductions in balancing expenditure that are not considered in conventional LCoE estimates. The cyclic, predictable nature of tidal stream power shows potential to provide additional, whole-system cost benefits. Installing this 124 MW by 2031 would put tidal stream on a trajectory to install the estimated 11.5 GW needed to generate 34 TWh/year by 2050. Doing so would make tidal stream cost competitive with technologies such as combined cycle gas turbines, biomass and anaerobic digestion. It is estimated that the installation of this 124 MW would serve to drive down the levelized cost of energy (LCoE), through learning, from its current level of around 240 £ / MWh to below 150 £ / MWh, based on a mid-range technology learning rate of 17%. In the UK, 124 MW of prospective tidal stream capacity is currently eligible to bid for subsidy support (MeyGen 1C, 80 MW PTEC, 30 MW and Morlais, 14 MW). The size of the practical resource depends in part on the economic competitiveness of projects. Evidence is presented that broadly supports the latest national-scale practical resource estimate, of 34 TWh/year, equivalent to 11% of the UK’s current annual electricity demand.
